Four new Australian stamps show the beauty of Princes Highway!

Australia Post introduced a set of four stamps commemorating the centenary of the Princes Highway, Australia. This scenic route was officially opened in 1920 as a major arterial road between Sydney and Melbourne. The issue designed by Australia Post features vintage travel posters that celebrate some of the cities and towns along its length, namely Mount Gambier, Geelong, Melbourne and Sydney.

The first stamp features the poster that showcases the lakes of Mount Gambier as well as the Centenary Tower. It was designed by artist John Charles Goodchild who arrived with his family in South Australia in 1913, from London.

The travel poster that appeared on the second stamp presents a day out at Geelong’s Eastern Beach. It was created by Isaac James Northfield who is one of the most celebrated Australian travel posters designers of the early 20th century.

The third stamp features a poster made by commercial artist Percy Trompf. It displays a busy day on Collins Street, Melbourne, at the intersection of Swanston Street. The fourth item shows a poster featuring Sydney Harbour, with the tip of the Sydney Harbour Bridge visible in the distance. It was created by Richard Ashton who worked mainly as a landscape and seascape artist.
