Luxembourg Post released a 3D stamp for Asteroid Day!

Luxembourg Post has cooperated with ESA to mark Asteroid Day, which is observed each year on 30 June. The aim of this event is to tell the public about the ‘risks and opportunities’ of asteroids. The campaign was initiated by astrophysicist and guitarist Dr. Brian May of the rock group Queen, Apollo 9 astronaut Rusty Schweickart, filmmaker Grig Richters, and B612 Foundation President Danica Remy.

The 30 June was selected as the date to remember the fall of the Earth’s largest asteroid, the Siberia Tunguska, in 1908 that destroyed 80 million trees. Dr. Brian May cooperated with Claudia Manzoni to create incredible stereotypic images of asteroid Ryugu using images taken during JAXA’s Hayabusa2 mission. JAXA employee Yoshiro Yamada then processed these pictures and designed the red and blue image featured on the stamp that should be viewed with red-blue stereoscopic glasses that are delivered with the issue. By putting these 3D glasses on, you will see the asteroid come to life!
