New issues of Monaco Post commemorating Centenary of the First World War

Centenary of the First World War - Hotel Alexandra

Constructed in the same period as the Monte-Carlo Casino, the Hotel Alexandra was transformed into a military hospital during the First World War, like numerous other hotels in the region. Wounded allied soldiers were brought here.

Centenary of the First World War - Prince Louis II

Born in 1870, Louis II, known as the Soldier Prince, volunteered for the French army in 1914. A staff captain in the Fifth Army, he took part in the victory of the Marne. As a squadron leader, he distinguished himself at Craonne and the Chemin des Dames on 28th October 1916. In addition to the Croix de Guerre, his heroic conduct earned him promotion to Major General. Louis II left the French army on 27th June 1922 to succeed his father, Prince Albert I.

These issues will be on sale at the "Office des Timbres", the "Musée des Timbres et des Monnaies", the post offices and philatelic counters of the Principality the "Carré d'Encre" in Paris, France. They will be included, with other values, in the 2nd Part of the philatelic programme 2014.
