PHLPost marks 75th Anniversary of the Battle of Manila with a stamp!

PHLPost released a commemorative stamp to mark the 75th Anniversary of the Battle of Manila. With this philatelic issue the postal service honors the men, women and children who perished during this conflict. The commemorative stamp features the “Memorare” by sculptor Peter de Guzman which stands at the Plazuela de Santa Isabel in Intramuros.

The monument depicts a mother in despair, cradling her lifeless baby in her arms. Inscribe on it is a dedication by National Artist Nick Joaquin which says: “To the innocent lives lost: “We remember them, nor shall we ever forget”.

Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo Puyat, Jose Miguel Cabarrus, President, Memorare Manila 1945, the association of civilian survivors and descendants of the Battle of Manila and Maximo Sta. Maria III, OIC, Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) Assistant Postmaster General for Marketing unveiled the commemorative stamp infront of the Memorare monument in San Agustin Church located at the historic Intramuros Manila.

The Battle of Manila was a big battle during WWII that was fought by the American and Filipino forces against the Empire of Japan in Manila. It was named by historians as the bloodiest and most horrible conflicts during the World War II.
