Soren Aabye Kierkegaard – Denmark-Faroe Islands joint stamp issue

The 5th of May 2013 marks the 200th anniversary of the birth of the world famous Danish theologian and philosopher, Soren Aabye Kierkegaard. As Kierkegaard also had a great influence on the Faroese people and their religious convictions, Posta Faroe Islands is celebrating this 200th anniversary in a joint issue with Post Danmark.

Much of Soren Aabye Kierkegaard's philosophical work deals with the issues of how one lives as a "single individual", giving priority to concrete human reality over abstract thinking, and highlighting the importance of personal choice and commitment. His theological work focuses on Christian ethics, on the institution of the Church, and on the differences between purely objective proofs of Christianity and the individual's subjective relationship to Jesus Christ, the God-Man, which came through faith.

The stamps of the joint issue are based on the Sketch of Soren Kierkegaard by Niels Christian Kierkegaard.
