Swiss Post celebrates 100 years of insulin with a stamp!

This year Swiss Diabetes Foundation and other diabetes-related organizations celebrate the 100th anniversary of the discovery of insulin. To underline the importance of this occasion and the significance of this vital hormone, Swiss Post released a special stamp. The item shows the tertiary structure of insulin, depicted as a 3D model. Besides, you can animate an image with the Post-App!

Now used for a century in the treatment of diabetes mellitus, insulin is a medical invention that radically changed the world. The road to its discovery was long, difficult, and full of dramatic events. The fame of insulin is mainly given to research carried out by the Canadian doctor Frederick Grant Banting. It was a groundbreaking achievement on par with the discovery of antibiotics. From this point, people with diabetes disease can lead independent lives receiving this life-saving treatment. Thanks to insulin, some patients now can live with diabetes for over 60 years.
