San Marino: EUROPE – ‘The letter’

The theme chosen by PostEurop for the series EUROPE 2008, is "The Letter". The philatelic issue is made up of two values of €0,60 and 0,65, designed by the young artist, Nicoletta Ceccoli, using a fantastic language created with delicate chromatic shades. The two images recount the wonderful journey of letters, letters which permit two friends or lovers to meet, even if far from each other. Issue

Switzerland: Europa - Letters

This year, the Europa stamp has been designed in honour of the letter. PostEurop, the umbrella organization for the large European postal authorities sets a different theme for the stamp each year. The individual members - including Swiss Post - can then apply this theme as they wish. The stamp has a face value of CHF 1. Date of issue: 08.05.2008

Letter from a Sailor's Wife

This year's theme for the Europa stamps is letter writing. The connection to the sea, and more specifically to a sailor's wife, was evident for the Aland Post. The sailor's wife has a strong role in Aland and is something of a national character. Letter writing used to be the only means for the Aland sailors to communicate with their relatives back home in Aland when they were on their long stays

Sweden's 'Punctuation' Stamps

Europa stamps are issued once a year with a common theme. This year the theme is Letters. A group of students at the University College of Arts, Crafts and Design were given the challenge of designing drafts for the Swedish stamps as a part of their coursework. Pontus Bjorlin won with his punctuation marks, the comma and the semicolon. Issue date: 27 March 2008
