The Danube Delta swans – four beautiful stamps presented by Romfilatelia!

Romfilatelia offered to collectors a new topic dedicated to UNESCO Heritage and to the 30th anniversary of the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve, through the postage stamps issue featuring beautiful swans that dwell in the Danube Delta, which is the best preserved delta and the second largest in Europe. It can brag about a wide variety of different species of flora and fauna. There you can also find unique landscapes.

The stamps show Mute Swan in various poses. The species that is popularly called the white swan is spread in the Danube Delta and the Razelm-Sinoe lagoon complex, where most of the nesting population in Romania is located. The white swan or mute swan weighs 9-13 kg, and the male is larger than the female. It is also amongst the heaviest of the world's flying birds. They are easy to recognize with their combination of a large size, a very long neck, white feathers and orange-red beaks with a black ridge towards the top.

They can live in captivity for 30-40 years. According to data from Romanian literature, between 800 and 1,000 pairs nest in the Danube Delta and the Razelm-Sinoe lagoon complex, and in the rest of the country a few dozen of other pairs. In Romania, it is a protected species.
