Åland Post revealed four new stamps featuring the most recent female Åland Premiers who have led the government of Åland. The stamps honors such premiers as Viveka Eriksson, Camilla Gunell, Katrin Sjögren and Veronica Thörnroos and show their photgraphs made by Therese Andersson. The issue will be put into circulation on 9 June - Åland’s Autonomy Day.
Åland's Autonomy Day is marked annually on 9 June in memory of Åland County Council's first assembly on this date in 1922. Åland's self-government from Finland was proclaimed by League of Nations in 1921, after the Åland Movement induced the issue of island reunification with Sweden.
Therese Andersson was happy and proud when she got this task, but also a bit anxious: “When shooting portraits, you must create a relationship with whomever you’re portraying, make the person feel at ease and, of course, think of the light. It was important to me to do the ladies and the office justice. Luckily, all four Premiers were as motivated as I to create fine portraits, and the result is dignified, powerful and classic portraits.”
