USA 1610c "CIA" Invert offered by Sterling Kingbrook for $14,000

The next Sterling Kingbrook auction that is to take place on October, 13 will  feature the rare "CIA Invert" in addition to with some other nice singles, sets, covers, specialty items, smaller accumulations, and our usual larger box lots. The auction offers the unique chance to acquire one of the greatest modern USA philatelic items for minimum bid of $14,000. It's a modern rarity and is believed to be rarer than the coveted Jenny Inverts.  

USA 1610c "CIA" Invert was discovered in 1985 and this event really rocked the philatelic world. The story made headlines across the nation and was featured on every major television network. It was the first major inverted stamp in 66 years. The stamp was found by CIA employees who purchased the stamps for business use at a McLean.  It is considered that a pane of 95 stamps was bought and the remaining five items have been never found. Eighty-five of the error stamps reached the collector market, of which only three blocks survive intact.

The example of 1610c "CIA" Invert stamp offered by Sterling Auctions is in a very fine, never hinged, condition. The catalogue value of this rarity is $17,500 and the auction house offers it with a minimum bid of $14,000.
