World cultural heritage of Russia, Historic Center of St. Petersburg stamps

St. Petersburg is one of the most beautiful and artistically rich cities of the world. Northern capital of Russia is notable for the logic of spatial composition, including strict straight streets, spacious squares, and numerous canals, bridges, quays, gardens and parks.
The newly issued stamp depicts the building of the Winter Palace, the Admiralty, St. Isaac's Cathedral and the Strelka of Vasilievsky Island.

The Admiralty is the first building on the left bank of the Neva River in St. Petersburg, which was originally conceived by Peter I as the shipyard. The place was not chosen by chance: Neva is wide enough here for ships to come off the stocks. From the year 1740 the construction of the enormous, solemn in appearance buildings in the baroque style began. The largest representative of this trend was Francesco Rastrelli who created one of the most outstanding monuments of St. Petersburg's Baroque - the Winter Palace, which served for many years the main residence of the Russian tsars. In the beginning of the XIX century, the city was decorated with the Strelka of Vasilievsky Island, building of the Old Stock Exchange and Rostral columns, as well as St. Isaac's Cathedral, which construction was lasting for 40 years.
