"Trondheim" block is the largest known multiply of the first Norway’s postage stamps. This impressive philatelic item was discovered at Trondheim's Central Railroad Station, affixed to a parcel of documents to the USA which had been returned as undeliverable - and then forgotten for about 75 years! "Trondheim" block is without doubt the most remarkable philatelic item of Norway, and one of the most important world rarities. It was first exhibited at the 1930 Oslo International Philatelic exhibition, and confirmed the recently published plating of the 1855 4 Skilling by Jellestad and Odfjell. This outstanding philatelic item was offered at David Feldman auction for $1,700,000 in April, 2008.

4 sk blue Coat of Arms is Norway's first stamp that was issued on the 1st January 1855. It depicts the National Coat of Arms – a Lion with the axe. The stamp was imperforate, printed in typography on handmade paper, and also features a lion wielding an axe as its watermark. Long appreciated as a classic stamp design, this great item has become a worldwide collecting favourite. One of the finest examples of this philatelic rarity was sold at after auction sale conducted by Christoph Gärtner in November, 2018. The stamp was described by the auctioneer as featuring “fresh colour and large margins all around, unused with original gum, unsigned with certificate Enger BPP, extremely scarce unused stamp”. The lot fetched 7 000 EUR (or roughly $7,927).

2 sk Posthorn blue stamp issued in 1871 is one of the rarest Norway stamps with a low denominations. The stamp design is made in blue colour and like other stamps from Posthorn series features a crowned Post Horn, with the denomination numeral in the center.  The stamp is typographed, perforated 14 1/2 x 13 1/2, and printed on paper with WMK 160 - the Post Horn watermark. 2 sk Posthorn blue stamp with a perfect centering and featuring a greenish shade was auctioned by Skanfil’s Moldenhauer in November, 2018. The lot with Geir Flatheim certificate fetched $5,327.

1k light green King Haakon stamp is a very interesting issue by Norway Post. The stamp shows the Prince Carl of Denmark. He accepted the role of becoming the first independent Norwegian king in 1905 after 586 years; he took the name "Haakon", an old Norse name used by previous Kings of Norway. He is revered even today because of the resistance he led against the Nazi invasion during WW II. The monarch died in 1957 after reigning for 52 years. The block of four 1k light green "King Haakon" stamps appeared at Kjell Germeten’s sale that took place in April, 2017. This is one of two blocks that are known to exist today. It was sold for $5,924.

3 øre shaded Posthorn issued in 1877 is one of the first stamps from this well-known series and one of the most interesting varieties as it is shaded. The item is denominated in Norwegian Kroner (100 Øre = 1 Krone). It features sans-serif lettering, a crowned Post Horn with shaded rings, and the denomination numeral in the center. One of the brightest examples of this impressive Norwegian philatelic item printed on 20 mm paper from Bentse was sold by Kjell Germeten at its sale that took place in May, 2015. The stamp that is considered as one of Norway's most unusual items fetched $4,617.

Oscar 4 sk blue released in 1856 is one of the greatest Norwegian issues. This is a definitive stamp that displays the left-facing profile of King Oscar I who was a generally an enlightened monarch, and attempted to established equality between the two kingdoms. It should be mentioned that his portrait appeared only on Norwegian stamps, but never on Sweden philatelic items. Oscar 4 sk blue stamp was typographed, perforated 13, and unwatermarked. An outstanding example of this rarity was offered by Corinphila auction house in May, 2015. Being described as “an exceptional imperforate example, lightly cancelled by 'Laurvig' datestamp (25/7) in black”, this bright lot fetched $3,965.

30 ØRE on 7 skilling red brown stamp, 1906

7 skilling red brown is one of six definitive lower-denomination Norwegian stamps issued between 1872 and 1875. This item features a crowned Post Horn, with the denomination numeral in the center.  Although the first Post Horn stamps went through many production changes, their design became the basic one for the following issues within this series. 7 skilling red brown with 30 øre is considered to be one of Norway’s most spectacular philatelic varieties, only 4 copies of which exist today. The item that hasn’t appeared on the philatelic marked since 1938 was sold by Skanfil’s Moldenhauer auction house in November, 2018. The lot fetched 74 000 NOK (or roughly $3,217).

10 øre Postfrim stamp, 1896

Postfrim 10 øre stamp is one of the classic Poshorn stamps introduced by Norway Post in 1896. The design of this issue was created by German architect Friedrich Wilhelm von Hanno. These philatelic items show the country as NORGE, the Norwegian name for Norway and a coiled post horn. The denomination of the stamp is printed inside the coil of the horn. The corners of the stamp are embellished with small wheels with attached wings, symbolizing speedy delivery of the mail. The inscription POSTFRIM that is a shortened version of postfrimarke (postage stamp) was inserted in the bottom part of the central oval. One of the rarest examples of Postfrim 10 øre stamp with large margins was offered by Kjell Germeten at its sale that took place in November, 2017. The lot was sold for $2,369.

In 1922, a new design was introduced, the Lion Rampant. 20o deep violet is one of the first issues of four stamps that are characterized by the Roman script "NORGE" and the line below "ORE". It features the Lion Rampant (the coat of arms adopted after independence in 1905) and is also thought as one of the first Norwegian commemorative stamps. The Postal Service decided to release commemorative issues because of two big events that happened in 1914: the Centenary of Norway's Constitution and the dissolution of their four-hundred-year relationship with the Kingdom of Denmark.  The block of four 20o deep violet Lion Rampant stamps was sold for $1,481 at Kjell Germeten’s sale that took place in May, 2017.

8s rose stamp is an attractive and highly collectible Norwegian philatelic item. This is a definitive stamp that entered a postal circle in 1863. Designed in rose colour, it features Norwegian Coat of Arms - the "Norwegian Lion" and an axe handle long enough to be a halberd. The stamps within this issue were lithographed, perforated 14 1/2 x 13 1/2, and unwatermarked. One of the finest examples of 8s rose stamp, 1863 was sold by Robert A. Siegel in May, 2015. The lot was described as having “original gum, lightly hinged, attractive color, sharp impression for this issue”. The stamp in a very fine condition fetched $1,200.
