1867 3c Washington Grill is to fetch $450,000 at Cherrystone auction!

Cherrystone is to conduct its “New Amsterdam Collection of United States Stamps” sale on July 10. There will be a great variety of rare and valuable philatelic material that will definitely catch the attention of collectors. One of the highlights of this spectacular sale is 1867 3c Washington Grill stamp along with the cover from which it originated. This interesting lot is expected to fetch more than $450,000.

This 3 Cent B Grill is one of the four discovered together on a cover to Germany. It is one of the scarcest stamps in the world and a key to a complete collection of the United States stamps. The example offered by Cherrystone is centered to upper left, has a natural straight edge at right, light diagonal crease, fine, with a photograph of the 1969 PFC for the original cover showing the four stamps (removed and hinged back) and 2019 PFC for this single copy. The emergence of this particular stamp along with the actual cover from which it originated is a major philatelic revelation, as both have not been seen in over 50 years.

Let’s follow this auction to see its impressive results!
