1918 24c Inverted Jenny offered for $450,000 at Siegel auction!

One of America’s most recognizable error stamps is about to be auctioned in New York City. The 1918 24¢ carmine rose and blue Jenny Invert airmail error stamp (Scott C3a) from position 95 will appear at the upcoming action that will be conducted by Siegel on March 3-5 public. This three-day sale offers a great variety of philatelic material from the Gary W. Granzow 3¢ 1851-57 collection and the Ronald D. Bassey collection.

The stamp offered here is a beautiful example of the famous 1918 24c Inverted Jenny that was originally part of the plate number and arrow block of eight, and then was part of the unique bottom arrow pair. Robert A Siegel described this outstanding lot as having “slightly disturbed original gum, partly regummed at left covering small thins, rich colors, better centering than many in the sheet of 100, showing part of vertical centerline at right, small toned spots at right and natural diagonal crease”. Siegel explains that the gum on this stamp has been inaccurately described for decades, with a description that incorrectly implied the entire stamp had been regummed.

1918 24c Inverted Jenny is offered with an approximate price of $450,000.
