Australian Fauna – four cute stamps released!

Australian Fauna – four cute stamps released!

Australia is rich on various species of animals, many of which have become iconic symbols of this country. This stamp issue is the latest on this popular theme introduced by Australia Post. Designed by Sonia Young, it features striking photographs of four fascinating animals that found their home on the territory of Australia. These are Galah, Red Kangaroo, Tasmanian Devil and Blue-tongue Lizard. The stamps use a close-up perspective and white background to show off the unique features of each fascinating species.

The first stamp features the Galah, which is also known as the Rose-Breasted Cockatoo, for its distinctive rose-pink and grey colouring. This vocal and playful bird is known for its acrobatic style of flight but spends much of the day sheltering in trees and shrubs. The second stamp is devoted to Red Kangaroo, which is the largest marsupial and mammal in Australia. It is one of the two animals featured on Australia’s coat of arms.

The third stamp features the endangered Tasmanian Devil. It is the largest living carnivorous marsupial in Australia and the world, with males weighing around 12 kilograms. This animal is famous for its fearsome reputation. And the last stamp shows the Eastern Blue-tongue (Tiliqua scincoides) that lives in eastern and northern Australia. Blue-tongues, so-named for their deep cobalt-blue tongues, are quite shy, though they can become aggressive if threatened.
