Canada’s new stamp honors a famous singer-songwriter Stan Rogers!

Canada Post released a colorful and well-designed stamp to celebrate the life and creativity of Stan Rogers - one of Canada’s greatest and most beloved singer-songwriters. The item was illustrated by Peter Stain and is based on the shot taken by Paul Coates at the Calgary Folk Festival in the early 1980s. The background features a photograph by Darren Calabrese of Fogarty’s Cove, the Nova Scotia namesake of Rogers’ first album.

Stanley Allison Rogers was born on November 29, 1949, in Hamilton, Ontario. He learned to play the guitar when he was 5, and at the age of 14, he began to perform in coffee houses. Rogers is well-liked for his beautiful songs and lively, engaging performances that promoted Celtic-style music. His rich baritone voice captivated the attention of many listeners. During his brilliant career, Rogers produced four albums, the last of which contains acclaimed title track “Northwest Passage”, which is widely regarded as Canada’s second national anthem.

Although it has been nearly 40 years since his death, his music remains highly popular nowadays.
