Charles Alfred "Chief" Anderson stamp from the USA

Charles Alfred "Chief" Anderson stamp from the USA

The USPS has released a new stamp to immortalize legendary Charles Alfred "Chief" Anderson. He served as the Chief Instructor at Tuskegee Training Center, Alabama. Thus, Tuskegee Airmen became a sort of military brand for the US armed forces. Anderson is frequently recognized as the Father of Black Aviation. Due to his great input in the military, the USPS decided to create a commemorative stamp for him.

"Chief" is considered a pioneer in Black aviation. He played a significant role in motivating and training countless pilots to develop and grow their skills in aviation. His Tuskegee Airmen bravely fought during World War II, showing amazing combat performance. This provoked a breakthrough in desegregation policy in the military in the late 1940s. In a whole, Charles Lindbergh inspired a new generation of African-American aviators.

The stamp design was made by Sterling Hundley. He used a blend of oil, watercolor, and acrylic paints. Hundley took his inspiration from Chief's portrait in a 1942 yearbook of the Tuskegee Institute's aviation training center.
