Corinphila conducted a series of great actions from 7 to 12 September introducing to collectors’ attention a great number of philatelic items from The Dubois Collection, The Besançon Collection, classic Switzerland, and Liechtenstein accumulations, as well as a wide variety of Europe & Overseas material. One of the highlights of this sale was an unused block of eight of the “Vaud 5” of Geneva that managed to fetch 105,000 CHF, or roughly $113,821.
Block of eight “Vaud 5” of Geneva stamps is a rare multiple of rare stamps from the sheet of 100. Being a flawless museum piece, this item is widely regarded as one of the really great rarities of classic Swiss philately. Philatelists assert that there are three unused blocks of eight Vaud 5 Geneva stamps. Two of them were part of Paul Mirabaud's collection until 1908, the third one from the upper right corner of the sheet was last auctioned by Edouard Locher in 1930 and then it disappeared. The stamps from this multiple feature regular wide margins with almost untouched original gum.
