1. Norfolk Island Humpback Whale stamp series

Norfolk Island Humpback Whale Stamp series 2024

Norfolk Island and its waters are a true home to different animals. The Humpback Whale (Megaptera novaeangliae) is not an exception. Adult whales may be 14–17 meters in length and up to 40 tons in weight. They are famous for the delicate and amazing vocals performed by males. Sometimes these whales can jump above the surface, which makes the watchers freeze in awe. The visitors of the island are able to watch their annual migration from the Antarctic.

Unfortunately, their population was almost at the extinction line between the XIXth and early XXth centuries. Presently, they are protected by the Australian government. So, this stamp is a commemoration and a way to raise awareness about these remarkable animals.

2. Nostalgic Tinned Fruit Labels stamp series

Nostalgic Tinned Fruit Labels Stamps 2024

From the 1920s to the 1940s, Australia's gross domestic product mostly consisted of tinned food production (up to 20% share). Australia emerged as a significant food exporter as its output surpassed domestic needs, garnering a reputation on the global stage.

Following World War II, Britain remained a key market for canned food from Australia. Accuracy in labeling was paramount to informing consumers from abroad about the origin of the fruit. Presently, fruit tin labels offer a window into the past, reflecting the trends of earlier times. This stamp serves as a reminder of the success of Australia in the production of canned food.

3. Lunar New Year of the Dragon stamp series

Lunar New Year of the Dragon stamp series 2024 australia

The Lunar New Year is a significant cultural festival. It is celebrated by many people around the globe. In China, families gather at the table, exchange presents, and eat a traditional dinner. They light up the candles to honor their ancestors, exchange gifts, and send cards to each other. The red paper as well as the red envelope symbolize luck and prosperity. The event also includes traditional dances with paper lions and dragons and amazing fireworks.

In traditional Chinese beliefs, the dragon represents power, honor, luck, fortune, and success. This zodiac sign is considered to help noble, ambitious, and talented individuals. Ancient Chinese folklore narrates that dragons once coexisted with humans, offering protection and guidance for them. The stamp commemorates the final year in the Chinese calendar, the year of the dragon.

4. Australian ground parrots stamp series

Australian ground parrots stamp series 2024

Australia has a vast array of bird species — around 800 different kinds of birds. There are about 55 existing species of parrots. These vibrant and noisy birds stand out as striking examples of the native bird population. They possess two distinctive physical characteristics that differentiate them from other birds: a wide, downward-curved beak and zygodactylous feet.

These species exhibit decent flying abilities, although they tend to run as a means of evading threats rather than taking to the air. When startled from their hiding spots, they may glide close to the ground for a short distance before returning to the dense vegetation cover. The stamp is a symbol of Australia as the land of many birds.
