1. Mary Ann Shadd stamp, annual series (Release: January, 2024)
Mary Ann Shadd was the founder of the Provincial Freeman. She was the first Black female newspaper publisher. Born to free parents in Wilmington, Delaware she moved to Windsor, Canada where she established a racially integrated school in 1851, followed by a newspaper.
Shadd used her newspaper as an instrument to write about the true life of black people in Canada West and encourage them to stand against their rights. This stamp displays her portrait made in black and white ink on the gray background with flowers.
2. Spring Flowers – Wildflowers stamps (Release: March 1st, 2024)
These are the vibrant blooms of spotted beebalm (Monarda punctuato) and butterfly milkweed (Asclepias tuberoso), which make quite the sight during the flowering season. Only a few areas in southwest Quebec and southern Ontario in Canada are home to wildflowers.
They are legally protected and classified as threatened in Quebec. Alain Massicotte and Andrew Perro developed the artwork and the design.
3. Total Solar Eclipse stamp (Release: April 8th, 2024)
The moon’s shadow turned daylight to darkness for millions of Canadians on April 8, as a total eclipse of the sun touched parts of all three North American countries for the first time this century. In Canada, skies darkened over a «path of totality» from eastern Newfoundland and Labrador.
This spectacle unfolded over two hours but peaked only in a few precious moments of totality when the sun was completely obscured. This stamp displays the full eclipse along with a beautiful sky background and Canadian nature landscape.
4. Royal Canadian Air Force’s Centennial, commemorative cover (Release: April 2, 2024)
The Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) is a separate department of the Canadian military that has already celebrated its 100th anniversary in April 2024. Despite the fact that thousands of Canadians flew for Britain during World War I, their military aviation was not the unit of Canada's defense forces until the international conflict was over.
An Order-in-Council authorizing a part-time Canadian Air Force was granted in 1920. On April 1, 1924, it was officially added to Canada's defense force as a separate unit, having already been granted the «Royal» designation by King George V. This cover displays different historical photos, along with modern Air Force pilot and helicopter. If you are interested in aviation or military stamps you can check William George Baker stamp.
He was a Canadian ace pilot in World War I, commemorated in the Aviation Hall of Fame. This stamp was released on March 17, 2019.
