“Europa 2019 - National Birds” – a special stamp released by HayPost

HayPost has released a special postage stamp dedicated to the theme “International. Europa 2019. National birds”. Created by the artist-designer of “HayPost” CJSC Ashkhen (Mila) Khandzratsyan, this impressive stamp is fully illustrated inspired by the Armenian miniatures. The item features the barn swallow (Hirundo rustica) sitting on a branch in an environment typical for the flora of Armenia. Take a look at other beautiful Europa 2019 stamps.

The Barn Swallow is a medium-sized songbird, about the size of a sparrow. It measures between 15 and 18 centimeters (cm) in length and 29 to 32 cm in wingspan, and weighs between 15 and 20 grams (g). But while it is average-sized, it’s far from average-looking! Its back and tail plumage is a distinctive steely, iridescent blue, with light brown or rust belly and a chestnut-coloured throat and forehead. Their long forked tail and pointed wings also make them easily recognizable. It mainly nests in man-made structures, such as stables, attics and under the eaves of buildings, where it builds a nest of mud, clay, stalks and saliva.
