Fumetto Comic Festival – three new stamps released by Swiss Post

Swiss Post has released a cute set of three stamps dedicated to one of the greatest European festivals of fun - Fumetto Comic Festival. During the 2018 event, a competition to design a special stamp was launched. Participants were asked to depict the theme of Switzerland capturing the essence of comics. The winning design was “Helvetia, where is that (country)?” by Geneva-based Arnaud Tosi. The special stamp consists of three stamps, even the value of is depicted in typical comic-book fashion.

Over the course of its almost 27-year history, Fumetto has grown from a small, regional event into one of the most important international comic festivals in Europe. Fumetto is the Italian word for comic. It is derived from the verb “fumare” (to smoke), because little cartoon strips used to be inserted into cigarette packets. The festival aims to discover and promote young talent. This special event gives comic artists a chance to present their work and share information with peers and the public. It’s also a competition platform for budding artists of all ages. Fumetto Comic Festival, which runs until April 9, incorporates 12 main and 40 satellite exhibitions and attracts more than 50,000 visitors a year.
