Designed by Anthoula Lygka, this stunning philatelic issue is devoted to such species of birds as western rock nuthatch (Sitta neumayer) and Eleonora's falcon (Falco eleonorae). The western rock nuthatch (Sitta neumayer) is a small passerine bird, which breeds from Croatia east through Greece and Turkey to Iran. This species is slightly smaller than the Eurasian Nuthatch. The adult has pale blue-grey crown, back, rump, tail, wing-coverts and inner flight feathers. The primaries are blackish. The tail is uniformly grey. Eleonora's falcon (Falco eleonorae) is a medium-sized falcon. This is one of the most important falcons of Greece with a wingspan of 84-103cm and a body length 36-40cm. Greece is considered the most significant country for the conservation and survival of this species of birds.
