“Handcrafted Jewellery in The Mediterranean” – four Euromed 2021 stamps released by Hellenic Post

Hellenic Post issued a set of four Euromed 2021 stamps, which are released annually by all countries surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea, on the common theme. This year’s topic is “Handcrafted Jewellery in The Mediterranean” and Greece decided to picture the eminent samples of the Greek jewels chosen from the Benaki Museum as well as the Byzantine and Christian Museum’s collection.

The first stamp features golden earrings with pendent doves that dated by early 2nd c. BC and are kept in Benaki Museum nowadays. The second item depicts Golden Buckle originated in the 6th-7th century and is exhibited in Byzantine and Christian Museum. The third stamp shows a silver-gilt necklace with chains, corals, and colored stones (Epirus, 17th-18th centuries) that can be found in Benaki Museum today. And the last item from this stunning issue depicts a composite bridal breast ornament with silver plaques, chains, and pendent crosses (Aidipsos in Euboea, 19th century) that is also kept in Benaki Museum.
