Armenia Post introduced a special EUROPA 2021 that is dedicated to the “Endangered National Wildlife” theme. EUROPA philatelic issue underlines the development of the cooperation among European Postal Operators. The item depicts the predatory bird “Aquila chrysaetos” (Golden Eagle) against the background of the Armenian mountains. The bird is listed in the Red Book of the Republic of Armenia.
The golden eagle is the largest of the eagles. It has virtually no enemies in the wildlife. This is a large bird of prey, strong and dexterous, with a wingspan of up to 227 cm, the male weighs 3 - 3.5 kg, and the weight of the female is 4.5 - 5.5 kg. The plumage of an adult bird is dark brown with lighter (shabby) ends of feathers, black beak, and yellow membranes. Juveniles have a dark chocolate color, with a golden crown, white markings on the wings, and a white tail trunk.
