Kyiv is ours! George Malakov, 1975 (litocut) depicted on new Ukrainian stamp

Ukrposha issued a stamp depicting the famous litocut "Kyiv is ours" created by the Ukrainian painter George Malakov.

The stamp celebrates the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Kyiv from Nazi occupation and depicts the install of red flag over the Kyiv St. Michael Square. This traditional military ceremony was conducted at night from 5 to 6 November 1943 by a group of soldiers from the 4th headquarters of the I Ukrainian front. The flag was improvised – it was actually a red scarf belonging to a local girl Anna Kryvenko from Degtyari farm. The boy from a local farmhouse Mikola Degtyarenko brought soldiers to the center of the city hurriedly left by the enemies. The painter depicted the boy together with the sergeant Micola Kyryuhininstalling the flag above the center of Kyiv, near the Sophia Cathedral and the monument to Bogdan Khmelnitsky.
