Light of friendship brightens six new Finnish stamps!

Finland Post introduced six spectacular Valentine's Day stamps that present the shared moments, joys and memories of a friendship. This year’s issue has been created by Samuli Siirala, an advertisement and magazine illustrator. The stamps have been designed in a retro style that made them look like posters. The illustrations have been created digitally, but the edges of the illustrations have been finished in watercolor, giving them a more organic feel.

"At its best, friendship can last from early childhood to old age. The same people who played with each other in the sandbox as children may support each other throughout their entire lives. For the stamp series, I wanted to depict unique moments of friendship when no one is in a hurry to go anywhere and everything is well," says Siirala.

In Finland, friendship is what’s celebrated on Valentine’s Day. People give gifts and cards to their best friends; it’s not just for romantic partners. The bond of friendship is celebrated with sheer enthusiasm on this day. Finland postal service delivers special cards and stamps on Valentine’s Day. Such campaigns on Friendships Day are widely appreciated and are popular among the Finnish people.
