Louis DeJoy announced his resignation as the postmaster general of the USPS

The news was made about a month after the USPS verified that DeJoy had notified the board of governors of his resignation, which sparked the process of finding a replacement. During difficult times, he characterized his tenure as a time of great change, and he said he was getting ready for the next stage of his life while making sure the Postal Service continued on a steady course.

DeJoy had been working with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to improve the Postal Service, according to reports from Linn's Stamp News on April 7.

He informed the USPS board of governors on March 24 that he would be leaving the position. As he reflected on his tenure as the 75th postmaster general, he reflected on the nearly five years he had been in charge of the organization and thanked the 640,000 employees he regarded as friends and colleagues. He called his term one of his greatest professional accomplishments.

The USPS board of governors chairwoman, Amber McReynolds, praised DeJoy for his commitment and leadership in a statement issued that same day. She emphasized the board's gratitude for his accomplishments, highlighting his role in modernizing the Postal Service and resolving long-standing institutional issues.

Additionally, the USPS revealed that it had enlisted the help of renowned international executive search firm Egon Zehnder to help choose the new postmaster general. In order to find and assess applicants who can successfully guide the Postal Service into the future, the company is anticipated to collaborate closely with the board of governors.

Deputy Postmaster General Douglas A. Tulino will operate as postmaster general until a successor is named. The USPS made it clear that there is no deadline for appointing DeJoy's replacement and that they will offer updates on the selection process as needed.
