
Following major success with its preceding sales Mayfair Philatelic returns to Lingfield Park Racecourse on March 8th to conduct its next public sale. The auction house will offer to collectors’ attention customary 100 or so boxes, a fine range of world and one country collections and adhering to popular demand, as well as a strong Commonwealth and Great Britain sections.
Among the highlights of GB section there will be a fine selection of ‘blacks’ and ‘blues’, 3 ‘Rainbow’ Colour Trials, an interesting little section of ‘Underprints’, mint QV including the spectacular 4d ‘Large Garter’ blk of 4, £1 SG 212a ‘Framebreak’ and two examples of mint 2/- brown, two 1 1/2d Colour Trials and a superb section of Seahorses. Some rare error items will also appear at this sale. These are QE2 errors including a nice group of Machin imperf pairs and a 1967 Xmas SG 757b, Officials including SG O63 and O110.
The Commonwealth section includes particularly fine Ceylon and KUT (with the superb 1922 high values featuring the £25 and £50 o/pt Specimen), New Zealand missing colours, Zanzibar high values, an India SG 50, Gibraltar £5, Sierra Leone SG 67 and the unique Nigeria1935 Jubilee Master Die Proof. The absolute highlight of this section is the Papua Postage Due double surcharge u/m, SG D1a.
Mayfair will be exhibiting at the London 2020 Exhibition, which is to be held at the traditional Stampex venue from May 2 until May 9. To mark this significant event the auction firm will conduct a special public sale on May 22nd. The lots that will be offered there will be exhibited at the show.
