Monaco Post honors Henri Matisse with a special stamp!

Monaco Post issued a special stamp to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the birth of Henri Matisse. He was a French artist that is widely thought of as one of the great artists of the 20th century. His paintings and drawings for a long time overshadowed his achievements as a sculptor. With his unconventional paintings that set new standards, Matisse had a lasting influence on the art of the 20th century. The beautiful stamp designed by Yves BEAUJARD shows Matisse while writing his name.

Henri Matisse was interested in impressionism, before adapting the techniques of pointillism, ultimately becoming the leading figure of the fauvism movement. Matisse is commonly regarded as one of the artists who is responsible for significant developments in painting and sculpture. In addition, Matisse produced sets and costumes for the Ballets Russes de Monte-Carlo, including for the ballet "Rouge et Noir" by Leonide Massine depicted on the stamp. A major figure of the 20th century, his influence on American and German art was significant.
