New Zealand Post released a special Rainbow Pride stamp to support its LGBTQI communities. This item also celebrates the 35th anniversary of the passing of the Homosexual Law Reform Act that legalized same-sex relationships. After the release of this document, homosexual men could live without fear of prosecution.
The stamp shows a modification of Gilbert Baker’s six-stripe pride flag that is known as a symbol of LGBTQIA+ communities. It features six distinct colors - red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and violet. The stamp shows a Rainbow Flag with five arrow-shaped lines to focus on the current needs of the community. The added colors form a chevron arrow points to the right to show forward movement and the progress that is still needed to be made.
“This special edition stamp has been really meaningful to work on. Our stamp program aims to be inclusive and reflective of our history and the many groups and cultures in New Zealand society. We are so proud to be supporting the 2021 Pride events and LGBTQIA+ communities in New Zealand. The key aim of the project is to help raise awareness but we will also be making a donation to RainbowYOUTH, as an expression of our support beyond the events planned for 2021,” Lynette Townsend, NZ Post Stamps and Collectables Programme and Content Manager, said in a statement.
