Nijmegen’s Four Day Walk as the unique tradition in Netherlands! Four days of walking pictured on 5 stamps by PostNL

Thousands of people – young, old, soldiers, civilians – all take part in the International Four Day Marches of Nijmegen, a unique event full of sportsmanship and atmosphere. PostNL issued a stamp set devoted to the hundredth anniversary of the Four Day Walk. Johan Willemstein, chair of the Foundation DE 4DAAGSE and Hubert Bruls, Mayor of Nijmegen received the first stamp sheets from Linda van Zomeren, HR Director at PostNL.

FindYourStampsValue.com invites our readers to trace the route of this walk with these five bright stamps!

Linda van Zomeren explains: "A record number of participants are expected for the one hundredth edition of the Four Day Walk. We have a great deal of appreciation for all of those who walk enormous distances on four consecutive days. The Four Day Walk is a great tradition in the Netherlands that deserves to be captured on stamps".

The four walking days through Nijmegen and the surrounding area are aptly illustrated on the stamps. The stamp set consists of five separate stamp sheets. Not only do the stamps depict the Nijmegen Four Day Walk as a whole, the specific walks in Wijchen, Elst, Cuijk and Groesbeek are also highlighted. The walkers are pictured through the years in black and white and colour. Both the effort in their faces and the blisters on their feet have a place on the stamps.
