Nototheniid Fish stamp from French Southern and Antarctic Lands

Tags:

In the beginning of each year TAAF Post issues the whole annual stamp program at once. Usually, this program consists of 12-15 stamps or blocks. These emissions always include a mineral, a boat, fish, flora and fauna, transportation and men or women intimately linked to the territory of French Southern and Antarctic Lands.

The 2013 fish stamp features the Nototheniid fish. Nototheniid fish (Lepidonothen squamifrons) was overfished in 1970 and 1990, and its fishery was suspended. Inventory replenishment allows reconsidering the ban on its fishing. For the moment only fishing with bottom trawls is authorized. Nototheniid fish is requested by the markets of the countries of Eastern Europe (Poland).
