Operation Ruthless

Operation Ruthless

This first day cover for the James Bond stamp issue is based on Ian Fleming's links with Bletchley Park. A source of inspiration for his James Bond stories.

"Operation Ruthless" was an Ian Fleming plan to obtain the Enigma codes in 1940. It has all the elements of a "Bond" plot. The stamp designs are early book jackets for the Bond series. Designer George Thompson has taken this theme into the first day cover design. The details of "Operation Ruthless" as submitted by Ian Fleming are included with the cover in the form of a period Top Secret memo.

Only 500 will be issued to make this a very collectable item.

Issue Date: 8 January 2008
