Postmaster Lorenz I Bordogna of Taxis stamp from Austria

Austrian post issued a special stamp featuring an original oil painting portraying postmaster Lorenz I Bordogna of Taxis. The portrait was painted in the style of Giovanni Battista Moroni in 1555. The original oil painting has a size of 101 x 82.5 cm and was owned by Carlos Tasso de Saxe-Coburgo e Braganca. In 2010, the picture was gifted to the Vienna Kunsthistorisches Museum, Ambras Palace Collection. Since 2012, it is part of the permanent exhibit "The mail is here! Postmaster portraits of the Taxis-Bordogna family".

Lorenz I Bordogna of Taxis (1510–1559) was the Imperial Postmaster of Trento. He learned the exercise of the Postmaster in the Brussels office mailroom and worked from 1531 in Trento. Among his greatest professional challenges it is to note the handling of mail during the Council of Trent (1545-1563), when it was a regular correspondence between the Roman Curia, the papal nuncio in the Holy Roman Empire and the Habsburg court in Vienna, and the coordination of the transfer of goods and people.
