Royal Mail celebrates of Rupert Bear comic strip with eight stamps!

Rupert Bear is Britain’s longest continually running comic strip first unveiled to the public on 8 November 1920. Royal Mail is excited to celebrate 100 years of Rupert with eight special stamps that feature the artwork of Alfred Bestall, who wrote and illustrated more than 270 Rupert stories, with his version being widely considered as the basic one. The philatelic collection also features enchanting verses from classic Rupert Bear adventures.

Rupert Bear is the children's character made famous in the stories that featured in the Daily Express newspaper. He is a young bear who lives with his parents in the country village of Nutwood. He enjoys magical adventures with his friends (which are humanised animals) and meets other creatures such as elves and giants with each frame of a Rupert story accompanied by lines of verse. Rupert Bear has appeared on two British 'Greetings' stamps in the past, issued in February 1993 and February 1994, respectively.
