Secret Women of Distinction

Secret Women of Distinction

For Royal Mail's 'Women of Distinction' stamp issue on 14th October Bletchley Park Post Office is servicing a rather special cover. Artist Jayne Abbott has created 6 exclusive portraits of Bletchley Park's women code breakers from wartime photographs. The ultra secret activities of wartime Bletchley Park meant that such photographs are very rare. Each woman represents a particular aspect of the work undertaken by over 8,000 at Bletchley Park between 1939 and 1945. As a result World War 2 was shortened by 2-3 years and millions of lives saved. Inside the cover designed by Jayne are biographies of the 6 women and the role they played.
