Special stamps to preserve memory of Singapore's vanishing trades

Singapore Post is releasing a special stamp issue on vanishing trades in Singapore.

It features trades such as the "kachangputih" man, the parrot astrologer and the knife sharpener.

Other trades featured include ice-ball sellers, cobblers and lantern makers.

These tradesmen were once a common sight on the five-foot-ways of shophouses in Singapore.

But they are fast disappearing as the skyline of a modern financial and maritime hub replaces the old townscape.

As SingPost reported to FindYourStampsValue.com, the colourful but now fading trades are part of Singapore's rich cultural heritage, and it hopes to preserve memories of them with the stamps.
