Stamp Collecting's Fate in the Internet Age

A blogger at Britannica today has a post suggesting that stamp collecting is dead in the age of the Internet and that the hobby holds little interest for young folks today.

Robert McHenry writes, "One of the innocent victims of our Brave New Electronic Age has been, I suspect, the hobby of stamp collecting. Who needs the Post Office when there is email? It's a pity. Stamp collecting was once one of those phases every boy (and many girls) went through, along with a passion for dinosaurs (or horses) or an interest in space flight."

Is this really true? And hasn't the Internet opened up new possibilities for stamp collectors worldwide?
