The spirit of Christmas is reflected on four stamps by Finland Post

The spirit of Christmas is reflected on four stamps by Finland Post

Posti released four Christmas stamps that depict familiar, cozy scenes from Finnish Christmas celebrations. These bright philatelic items feature a pair of ice skates, Christmas ball, retro styles candles and snowy rowan berries. All these scenes and images are associated with the happiness and joy that people feel during the festive season. We invite you to appreciate these original stamps and other philatelic issues devoted to Christmas

Designed by Marjo Nygård, the first stamp for Christmas greetings shows a red Christmas ball ornament hanging from a Christmas tree branch.

“The ball ornament can reflect people coming together, sounds and songs. On the other hand, the reflection can also capture a happy moment of solitude, reading a book and spending some me-time,”- says Marjo Nygård, designer of the Christmas stamps.

The second stamp shows four red-colored retro-style candles that symbolize four Advent Sundays before Christmas and the transition into Christmas peace. The third Christmas stamp features a jolly illustration of ice skates, colorful socks and blue-tinted ice.

“You can go skating in the nature or in the city’s ice rinks, like the one in front of the Ateneum Museum. Put on your hat and gloves, grab some hot cocoa and take your skates for a spin,” - Nygård recommends.

The last Christmas 2018 stamp by Posti was designed by Stiina Hovi and displays berries glowing in the snow. This item perfectly suits for sending winter’s greetings.

“As fall turns into winter, nature offers nutrition and beauty in the form of rowanberries. Frost tames their tart flavor and makes their colors glow,” says Stiina Hovi.
