Tin Toys stamps from Thailand

Tin Toys stamps from Thailand

To commemorate the International Letter Writing Week the Thai Post has issued a series of stamps under the name "Tin Toys". The series contains six stamps depicting wind-up animals, Chinese rattle drums, air gun, stream boats, tricycle boy and spinning tops.

Tin Toys made of Zinc are lighter and more durable than those made of wood. Operated by mechanical springs, these toys come in a great variety; for example, a boy riding a tricycle, an array of animals, boats, trains going into a cave and daring plane flights. These toys are shaped without being moulded but with the insertion of small metal valves to make them interlock. At first, the designs were hand painted but more recently hand painting has been replaced by the lithography technique.
