Traditional Costumes – Gmundner Tracht stamp from Austria

Traditional Costumes – Gmundner Tracht stamp from Austria

This special issue by Austrian post is the first in the new series "Traditional Costumes" which combines traditionalism, local ties, fashion and everyday life in contemporary interpretation.

The stamp focuses on the tracht from Gmunden, a charming town on the north shore of the Lake Traunsee in Upper Austria's Salzkammergut region. During the Habsburg monarchy Gmunden was known as a renowned summer resort. It still counts about 13,000 inhabitants and is the most popular holiday resort in the region. The term "tracht" (from Old High German "Traht (a)," Middle Low German "Dracht") is defined generally for traditional or historical clothing.
