UN Postal Administration Celebrates International Women’s Day with New Stamp Series

The United Nations Postal Administration (UNPA) marks International Women’s Day on March 8 with six commemorative stamps, issued in sheets of 10. These stamps come from different U.N. postal locations: New York (73¢, $1.65), Geneva (1fr, 2.50fr), and Vienna (€0.95, €1.90).

Each stamp highlights a theme: Planet (73¢), Power ($1.65), Safety (1fr), Prosperity (2.50fr), Peace (€0.95), and Access (€1.90). The designs, created by Barbara Tamilin and Rorie Katz of the U.N., reflect the global push for gender equality.

The U.N. has observed International Women’s Day since 1975, though its roots trace back to early 1900s labor movements. This year also marks 30 years since the Beijing Declaration, a landmark agreement guiding policies on education, healthcare, and women’s rights.

The 2025 theme, “For ALL Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment,” calls for breaking barriers, ending violence, and promoting leadership.

Printed in hexachrome by Joh. Enschede in the Netherlands, the stamps are issued in limited quantities: 9,000 sheets for the 73¢, $1.65, 1fr, and 2.50fr stamps, and 10,000 for the €0.95 and €1.90 stamps. Each stamp measures 30mm x 40mm.

A special souvenir card with messages from U.N. Women’s executive director Sima Bahous and U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres will also be available.
