A Jimmy Carter Forever stamp joins the mail, with a first-day event at Atlanta’s Carter Center.
On October. 1, 2025, USPS rolled it out nationwide at the current 78¢ Forever rate. The first-day ceremony took place at The Carter Center. The stamp goes straight into regular use at the current Forever rate of 78¢ and is available nationwide the same day.
The design leans on a 1982 oil portrait by Herbert E. Abrams, prepared while he worked on Carter’s official White House painting. Ethel Kessler handled art direction. It’s a clean, formal head-and-shoulders image: Carter facing slightly left, warm brown background, serif JIMMY CARTER at the top, USA at the lower right, and the vertical FOREVER inscription along the left frame.
For stamp collectors: panes of 20 (self-adhesive) stamps are the standard format, with first-day postmarks tied to the Atlanta event. If you’re chasing pictorial cancels, get requests in quickly; ordinary stock should sit in USPS channels for a while.
