HayPost introduced to collectors’ attention two postage stamps dedicated to the theme “Flora and Fauna of the Ancient World”. The item with nominal of 230 dram depicts “Basilosaurus” and the postage stamp with nominal of 280 dram depicts “Diplodocus”. The issue was designed by David Dovlatyan.
The first stamp is dedicated to Basilosaurus. This ancient animal had a stretched-out body that reached up to 15 meters in length. The lumbar and caudal vertebrae were extremely elongated. It swam by means of undulating up- and downward motions of its body. The second stamp shows one of the longest dinosaurs – Diplodocus. It was a long-necked, whip-tailed giant, measuring about 90 feet (27 m) long with a 26 foot (8 m) long neck and a 45 foot (14 m) long tail, but its head was less than 2 feet long. It was among the longest land animals ever.
