Česká Pošta celebrates Christmas 2018 with two stamps

Christmas and the coming of New Year are a time of traditions, good food, family atmosphere and entertainment in the Czech Republic. The Christmas is full of charming Czech traditions of golden pigs, carp and twinkling bells. Česká Pošta celebrates this important holiday with two bright festive stamps designed Filip Heyduk. The motif of these philatelic items is a Christmas decoration and Christmas sweets. We also encourage you to take a look at other spectacular Christmas 2018 stamp issues.

In the Christian tradition, Christmas is a celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. The holiday season officially begins four weeks before Christmas day with the start of the Advent period. Towns are adorned with decorations, lit up with tree lighting ceremonies and full of festive markets. The Advent markets evoke the atmosphere of upcoming Christmas throughout the Czech Republic.

Christmas is accompanied by a number of traditions, such as Christmas tree, nativity scene, gifts brought by Little Jesus, Christmas sweets. Some of these traditions date back to the pre-Christian era and are related to the celebration of solstice that takes place in the same days. Other traditions include cutting apples for good luck, pouring molten lead into water and guessing the future from its shape and decorating the Christmas tree as carols are sung.
