Christmas Island: Year of the Ox 2021 – three bright stamps released!

Australia Post introduced three bright “Christmas Island: Year of the Ox 2021” stamps to celebrate Lunar New Year, which will start on 12 February. This is one of the most important traditional festivals celebrated in the Chinese world. The philatelic issue was illustrated by Chrissy Lau, an award-winning, British-born Chinese artist who works in Sydney.

The items are designed in traditional lucky colors of gold and red and were inspired by ornaments and flowers that are believed to attract wealth and good fortune.

The first stamp shows the Ox that has a Chinese coin in its mouth. This ornament reminds of the Feng Shui frog that is said to invite wealth and money. The second item shows the Ox that has a cloud pattern on his body, which symbolizes good fortune and auspiciousness. And the third design represents the animal of this year with chrysanthemum flowers, which are associated with joy, happiness, and longevity. The Ox also wears* a necklace of golden coins for good luck.
