Correos celebrates the 140th Anniversary of Madrid Delicias Station with a stamp!

Correos released a special stamp to celebrate the 140th Anniversary of Madrid Delicias Station. The stamp features an illustration that shows a locomotive in motion with the station itself in the background, with lines looking like the smoke that comes out of the locomotive's chimney. The item is made in exquisite black and white tones, making the viewers dive into the past when the Madrid Delicias station was still active.

Delicias station was opened on March 30, 1880 by Kings Alfonso XII and María Cristina. Functioning as an international station, it provided the terminus of the line from Madrid to Cáceres and Portugal. Delicias connected two European capitals, Madrid and Lisbon, with direct transport and freight trains. The last train departed from Delicias in 1969, and fifteen years later the most valuable items were stored in the current Madrid-Delicias Railway Museum. Nowadays, the station, within its museum facet, has reached a great popularity, having become one of the most famous and visited museums in Madrid.
