Dalai Lama stamps to be auctioned in Duesseldorf. The Austrian philatelic rarity is to fetch more than $4,660

FindYourStampsValue.com is excited to let collectors know that Felzmann auction house is to sell one of the greatest Austria philatelic rarities – a pane of ten Dalai Lama stamps. The lot will be released during the public and postal history auction taking place on 5th to 7th July. The stamps depict His Holiness Dalai Lama and were supposed to be released in 2005 to celebrate his 70th birth anniversary.

Because of pressure from the Chinese embassy on the Austrian government, the intention to put these bright items into circulation was not realized, although all the preliminary work on the design of the postage stamps had been completed. However, some local citizens managed to grab some examples of Dalai Lama stamps. Auctioneers Felzmann maintain there are only 30 of the stamps in existence.

Dalai Lama is a leader of Tibetan Buddhism, who has lived in exile in India since he fled the Chinese occupation of Tibet in 1959. The Dalai Lamas are believed by Tibetan Buddhists to be manifestations of Avalokiteshvara or Chenrezig, the Bodhisattva of Compassion and the patron saint of Tibet. Bodhisattvas are realized beings, inspired by the wish to attain complete enlightenment, who have vowed to be reborn in the world to help all living beings.

An intact pane of 10 Austrian Dalai Lama stamps with little creasing in the margin is being offered at the auction with a starting bid of €4,000 (roughly $4,660).
