ECOWAS is to issue the common stamp on the occasion of its 40th anniversary
According to info received by FindYourStampsValue.com the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is gearing up to issue a stamp within its sub-region, ahead of the celebration in 2015 of the 40th anniversary of its creation. ECOWAS explains in a statement that the move seeks not only to foster regional integration, but also above all to assert citizens' membership of the organization.
This stamp, which should highlight the logo of the 40th anniversary of ECOWAS and the motto of the event: One Vision, One Future, will include the name of each member state, the face value, and the postal operator, the year of issue, as well as the name of the artist who realized it, depending on the operator's consent, the statement added.
Besides, all the text elements of the selected stamp will be written for each state in its official language, especially English, French and Portuguese, the three official languages used by member countries.
According to the same document, these different elements have been approved at a philately workshop held in Bern, Switzerland, which saw the participation of 13 of the 15 member states and high officials from ECOWAS.
The meeting gave participants the opportunity to exchange on various issues, including the management of a philatelic service, the fight against the illegal and excessive production of stamps, and proposed security techniques.
ECOWAs, which was set up on May 28, 1975 in Lagos, Nigeria, groups 15 member countries and is preparing for the celebration of the 40th anniversary of its foundation.
